At Boskone 58 This Weekend

One of the upsides of the pandemic has been the ability to attend conferences that I normally don’t have the money or time to travel to! Last year was the first time I was able to check out events that had long been on my to-do list, like Wiscon and Sirens. And this weekend, I’ll be at Boskone, which normally happens in Boston and is happening this year over the interwebs.

There’s still time to sign up and join! There are lots of writers hosting kaffeeklatsches, which is not a term I was familiar with until a couple of years ago, but they’re basically like, get coffee or tea and chat informally. It’s a great chance to meet people, especially writers you admire!

Here’s my schedule for Boskone 58:

Friday, Feb 12. 12:30PM PST/3:30PM EST: Game Design for Writers. Discussion Group. I’m hosting an informal meet up and discussion about how mechanics and narrative support each other! I have a few questions to frame the discussion but mostly I’m looking forward to meeting people who’re working in or interested in the topic and facilitating a fun discussion.

Saturday, Feb 13. 10AM PST/1PM EST: Rituals for writing. Moderated by Julia Ríos. We’re going to talk about rituals that get us writing, get us creative, and keep us going!

Saturday, Feb 13. 4pm PST/7PM EST: Worldbuilding: Inventing New Folklore for Fictional Worlds. This is going to be a really fun panel since I’m on it with Vida Cruz, who writes a lot of stories inspired by mythology and folklore of the Philippines, and I’m really interested to learn from her.

Stay well! Virtual conferencing can be fun and exciting but also exhausting! Remember to take breaks and drink water. And stretch!
