It’s been a real roller coaster this week, but I’m so excited to ring in a new Monday with a new president-elect and a new story, in the Nov 9th Issue of Strange Horizons! It is also available on Apple Podcasts.
This story came out of a flash fiction context run by the Codex Writers Group, a community for “neo-pro” writers (meaning, writers who are at the beginning of their professional careers.) The story contest is quite… brutal, honestly! Prompts are released on Friday, and you have until Sunday night to write a flash story based on it. The contest runs for five weekends in a row and by the end, you are exhausted but you have five little flash pieces that have gotten comments from other writers, that you can grow into other stories. I’m so glad I made myself do it, even though I’m usually quite a slow writer.
