Friday Friday Friday

I felt oddly out of sorts this week… not really sure why. Out of sorts and tense. We’re nearing the end of the school year and that always adds a little stress, both because of administrative duties but also because students have projects due and I feel their stress as they scramble to finish. They always get there in the end, but I empathize with how overwhelmed some of them feel now.

I’m still trying to complete one new story per week. This week I finished and sent off a story, and that felt good. I’m still waiting to hear back on four other stories, and that’s also anxiety-making. I feel this urge to keep writing frantically to stave off the anticipation of rejection… it’s almost a compulsion at this point. This weekend, we’ll record another episode of the Genre Hustle podcast and I’ll have my Beta readers over to give me feedback on a novel in progress, which I’m both looking forward to and also dreading a little bit, for the first time. Usually I’m so excited to get feedback, but this novel was a bear, and for some reason I’m feeling very nervous about it.

I did get some new fabric in, the cotton for making a toile for the Regency day dress project. I’m also going to try making a bodiced petticoat from the Laughing Moon pattern, but not sure which will come first. I mean, rationally, I should do the petticoat first, but I’m antsy to start the day dress, too.

And last night I got to go see Alvin Ailey with my friend Kate. I haven’t seen this company since I was in college (!!!) so it was a real treat. God, they’re inspiring and talented.

Happy Friday! Have a wonderful weekend.
